Out Of Hell has a steep learning curve and doesn't play the way you might be used to which makes it a bit challenging at times. There isn't much room for error and you
always have to be on your toes! Just a few seconds of error can cost you the game, so here are some tips that will turn you into a zombie slaying expert!
TACTICS: (Yes, there are some techniques to it)
Avoidance - Not all situations call for resistance! If you have room to run, do it. If there are cars and other obstacles that the zombies can't get to, jump on them! Hop from car to car if possible which allows you to save ammo and/or gain a fighting advantage over them!
Take your time and proceed slowly! Know your environment, check out what you can and can't jump on in case of an emergency! For example, instead of jumping into the fray here, why not see what can be done to save you ammo and avoid confrontation?
Always on be the move - These zombies may not sprint like the modern ones, but they're still pretty fast! What's worse, if you decapitate a zombie and it doesn't die, it moves
EVEN FASTER!What the zombies
CAN'T do however, is
attack you while they are moving. They have to be at a complete standstill in order to attack. What does this mean? Regardless of how fast or slow you move, they cannot hurt you if they are in pursuit so keep running in circles! If they stop to attack, you'll usually be out of range by the time they swing their meaty paws!
Headshots - Decap a zombie whenever possible with a firearm. Damage is multiplied making each shot a critical hit. A perfect headshot with a shotgun will down any zombie in one. It will usually take 3-4 with the pistol and 2-3 with an SMG.
Use shotgun zombies to your advantage- Shotgun zombies will open fire on you, regardless of whatever is in their path including other zombies! Save your ammo by letting them take other baddies down!
Manipulators - Manipulators are extremely resilient but have the same disadvantages as zombies! Those two glowing red trails may be creepy in the dark, but they allow you to track them and are easy targets to spot in any lighting situation! Take out those eyes!
Watch your back - Listen for audio cues! All hostiles give off some sort of audio cue to identify them, if they're heading towards you and by how far. Be careful of any corners and dark corridors that they can pop out of!
Don't let them corner you - If you were cornered by 3 zombies in real life, do you think you'd come out on top? DO NOT let them corner/surround you! Each hit will momentarily blind you, making it very hard to retaliate!
Soften them up - Take a few swipes with a melee weapon to lower a zombie's health, then use a shotgun to take out multiple targets at once and save ammo!
Regenerating health - You may be out of ammo but you're not down and out! Your health regenerates a little bit every few seconds. If you're injured and are running slow, have no health supplies, duck out and rest for a moment to regain health! Zombies aren't the only ones who can keep coming back!
WEAPONS:Switchblade - The last resort isn't bad at all! The range is short but it does some nice damage if you allow it to fully connect with a zombie. This weapon does damage through most of it's swing arc and can hit a zombie quite a few times with one swing! The horizontal attack can slice multiple targets and the vertical attack can slice up a single target nicely!
Crowbar - Another short range weapon that does some moderate damage. It's strongpoint comes in it's rate of fire. Attack recovery is very fast, so spam it on a single zombie to take it down quick! Not only that, the crowbar will constantly interrupt a zombie attack if it connects, turning them into little more than punching bags!
Machete - A pretty strong attack but slow to use. It can take a zombie out in one swing at times but it can be cumbersome. Use this if you feel like a challenge.
Pitchfork - The pitchfork has the best range of all melee weapons. Not only that, it can be charged to inflict a fatal stab that will kill most zombies in one shot! The best situation to use this is when you are within striking distance but the zombies can't get to you, for instance from behind a crate or on top of a car. In a pinch, you can also use it to keep zombies at bay as each stab will knock them back, allowing you to backtrack away or some time to jump onto a car!
Utility Axe- A very clunky and cumbersome weapon but also the most deadly hand-to-hand if used properly. The axe should be used if you have a lot of movement room. Do not go toe-to-toe with it as it has really slow recovery and swing time. Use it defensively, backing away and attacking. One chop will usually dispatch a zombie. I've used this weapon to take out a mob of 15 zombies, all hot on my trail! By backing away and timing my slashes, I was able to make mincemeat out them without lifting a brow. The only problem is that you may back into a corner by mistake, at which point you'll be in deep poopoo.
Grenades - Instant death to anything within range, including
YOU! Each blast also sends deadly shrapnel flying in all directions so try not to use it in corridors or if you're surrounded! If you see a mob heading your way, drop one in front of you and run in the opposite direction! By the time they pass over it, they could be turned into rotting piles of hamburger!
Ampoules - Very limited supply and available only on the final level. They have no splash damage and can only affect one hostile at a time, but each successful hit is instant, guaranteed death. Unlike the grenade, you can use it in close quarters as it cannot harm you.
Pistol- A basic but precise weapon.
Primary fire - Even at long range, the bullet will not deviate far from the crosshair. Use it to take out shotgun zombies and other targets from a distance.
Secondary fire - A quick 3-burst shot that can kill a zombie if all 3 bullets connect. Use this if you're in a pinch and up close! The spread is big and the accuracy is low, so don't waste it shooting zombies from a distance! Use it right in front of them to maximize effectiveness.
Pump Shotgun - Meat and potatoes gun, what you would most likely be using throughout most of the game. Carries 7 deadly shells that can dispatch most hostiles with one well placed shot to the head. It's powerful enough to take out a zombie with two body shots! The shotgun has a medium spread over distance so save it for close to medium encounters. Reloading is slow, so don't go reloading without first knowing if you should! (Most zombies taken out with one shot is 3)
Secondary attack - A swipe with almost negligible damage. This should not be used to take out a zombie but as a setup! The melee disrupts zombie attacks and knocks them back. The distance that they get knocked back is also the
PERFECT distance for a one-shot head kill! So knock 'em back and unload into their faces!
SMG - A pretty powerful gun that eats through ammo quickly. Primary fire shoots one bullet that slightly deviates from the crosshair but can take out a zombie in 2 well-placed shots.
Secondary fire - A 5-round burst that can dispatch even a manipulator. It's spread is quite big and if you're lucky, can take out more than one target.
Hunting Shotgun - A seriously deadly long range weapon. It has a ridiculously powerful and focused spread, allowing you to take out any creature in Grinwood with just one headshot and in most cases, a body shot. Use it for taking out zombies before they become a threat. A long reload time makes it a poor weapon of choice if you're being swarmed. (Most zombies taken out in one shot is 2)
SxS Shotgun - The side-by-side is powerful enough to take out any one or two monsters simultaneously, headshot or not. The best way to use it in order to maximize efficiency is to use it while elevated. Climb a car, wait for the horde to gather, and aim for their heads! It's spread is big and can allow you to take out even 4 zombies at once! (Most zombies taken out in one shot is 4)
