So most of you guys having framerate problems are running Vista or 7? Because your setups are good and I have no idea why you're getting such low frames. Your setups are better than mine and yet the game runs great for me! I've read some posts where people with similar systems have no hitches either.

I'm running XP. When I tried it at a friends who had a similar system to mine, it would also turn into a slideshow at areas that I would run smooth and he had Vista running. Can it be the differences between XP and Vista/7/Mac?

Could be CRC.

I have found Win7 to be faster on gaming than Vista.

Seems to be some performance differences with OSes

Hmm... I got the non-steam version. I ran it with Vista 32bit, a GeForce8800GTS Dx10 and 3GbRam at 1680x1050 with all settings at max. I only experienced fps drop around 3-4 times, where one was quite severe.
The three first times where on large city maps with lots of zombies and dust.

!Minor spoilers below!

The last, and severest, was during the forest part before the appartments. As soon as I was attacked by more than two shadows, it got below 10 and almost went unplayable. Took me quite some ammowasting to get through. One thing I noticed though was that when I killed the shadows, the lag decreased noticably.

Oh yea. And just at the end, as the ... came ... of the ... and ... ... Yea.
But I guess that is more due to the numbers.

That's numbers, definitely. As for the shadow creatures, it's all particles so I can cut that down to ease the load. :)

CRC, whatever you do, don't cut features that work for some but not others. Make it an option. If you cut something that works for some but not others, then those some will be let down and the others will be happy, just like right now, those others aren't happy but those some are fine the way it is.

Mayby if you can somehow find a way to boost it up 20-15 more fps . This game would be perfect . This game has been the best mod out there . ANd mayby do another story based on this .

Could it be something with the outside environment/outdoors? I mainly experience the FPS drop when I am outside. Inside the buildings, or (spoilers) at the ice cream shop when you meet Linda and she gives you the alien-egg cannon (/spoilers), the FPS is fine...50-60 FPS and beyond. :D

Perhaps its something with the sky?

Well, I've opened OOH-SEQ12 (the map where i was getting the lower FPS's, around 8) and noticed something that DEFINITELY will help improving the performance a lot. The box that involves the map is just way too big (didn't test if it had leaks but I'm guessing it doesn't :)), meaning the engine is calculating everything all the way to the box end and everywhere on the map 'cause there are no 'smaller areas limits'. I'm sure if the limits are made tight to the area we're playing the fps will go up by a LOT.
There also seems to be some unused areas\material just left there when the map was under construction, like textured surfaces that don't need to be, particle effects in places the player wont be able to see, objects that wont be visible to the player either and stuff like that.

Do you mind to give it a look CRC? I think we might be on to something.
Of 'course this will bring improvements for sure but it will still be a pain to edit everything.

Gasp! you discovered the area where Grinwood was built on an acient Indian buri...oh wait. wrong movie. But yeah, i would maybe try that. See if you can remove that. I'll be home later tonight, around 730-8pm EST to assist. I have another machine that can run some benches/temp patched improvements.

(Meanwhile, I have the soundtrack to keep me entertained while I am at work. Nothin is more creepier than walking realyl slow to the lunchroom to grab a Coke and you have the track "Hades" playing in your ears. 8-) )

I'll definitely go through the maps with an optimizing brush and clean up a few things, hopefully we'll be able to salvage some frames. Out Of Hell will still be a beast though, just a more efficient one. :) Maps compress really nice so I can go through them all and include the problem maps in the patch.

Sounds good! Until now, the OOH-SEQ12 map was the one that gave me the worst results with only around 8fps that made it completely unplayable so you might wanna start with that one for testing purposes of 'course, lol. I can even post a random save so everyone can try it in their own computers and check how certain changes affect performance.
Regarding that suggestion on the other post... is it possible? To create an option that disables all the dust\particles in the level? Would be awesome for lower performance machines.

Edit: Hahaha, and it's funny how the depth complexity tool always points the "sky"\horizon as dark red since the limits are so far. xD

Well this framerate issue was a problem since the OOH demo. I had that experience even on a P4 computer with a GeForce6200LE video card.
